I first learned about "fire cider" in 2003 at The Wise Woman Forum. I made a batch right away for our winter ailments. This stuff will kick a colds butt in a hurry!
Herbalist Rosemary Gladstar first wrote about "fire cider" in her books in the 1970's. Rosemary shared this recipe with the world free of charge for anyone to make. I personally don't think it is right for a company to trademark a remedy that is well known by its name by many herbalists. For each pint jar, you need:
1/4cup grated horseradish
1/4cup grated ginger root
1/8cup finely chopped garlic
1/2cup finely chopped onion
and a pinch of cayenne.
Grate all the roots and put in pint jar. Cover with raw apple cider vinegar. Put a piece of wax paper over the top of the jar loosely put the jar ring on. Let brew for six weeks strain and put in a clean sterilized jar. I like to set my jar in a bowl while it is brewing in case it bubbles over a bit.
